Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent. The early Christians observed the days of our Lord’s passion and resurrection, and it became the custom of the Church to prepare for them by a season of repentance and fasting. Lent is the period of forty days from Ash Wednesday to Easter Sunday. The Forty Days is connected to the forty days Jesus spent being tempted in the wilderness. This season is a time to consider what unhealthy things our lives are filled up with and to remove those things that keep us from being wholly devoted to our Lord. It is a time to die to our own sins and to make room for living the life of Christ.

Join us as we observe the historical practice of Ash Wednesday and begin the season of Lent. By doing so we join in with the whole Church, both in time and place, to honor and follow Christ’s example of sacrificial love.

The Ash Wednesday service starts at 7pm sharp and is open to families, kids, etc. Andrew Hoeksema is speaking. Brian McCutchen is leading music on acoustic guitar. The service is geared to be really mellow and contemplative.
