What’s Happening at Community Covenant Church

The monthly Men’s Breakfast is Saturday, September 12 at 8:30 am at Mollie’s Cafe in Scotts Valley. All men are welcome for this time of food and fellowship.

This Sunday, September 13 is CHIC Sunday where we will show a video of our high schoolers at CHIC 2015. Youth Groups get started Sunday night. Dinner is provided:
6-7:30 Middle School
6:45-8:15 High School

Also this Sunday, September 13, after church, Caroline is hosting Children’s Ministry Training and Gathering event for current and prospective children’s ministry teachers and youth helpers. Please join us in the CE building for lunch, fellowship, and annual safety training.

Adult Bible Study kicks off Tuesday, September 15 at 2 pm with an Ice Cream Social at the home of Gerry & Shirley Cox. Please let Gerry & Shirley know you are coming so there will be plenty of homemade ice cream. The study will meet on the first and third Tuesday of each month in the Fireside Room at 10 am starting October 6. They will begin with John Chapter 17 – Jesus’ “High Priestly Prayer.” Invite your friends!

Club 4-5 meets Friday, September 18 from 7-8:30 pm @ church

Faith Community Shelter, Saturday, September 19, at 5:30 pm, at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, 5271 Scotts Valley Drive. Join Erik & Heather Hedstrom to prepare or serve food to a group of 16-20 homeless individuals.

Also of note: Photo Directories and Covenant Missionary Calendars are available to pick up in the narthex. AND, even better, we are gathering unused ukuleles for a youth uke band! Please bring ukuleles to the bin in the narthex on Sunday. Put your name on it if it’s on loan AND THANK YOU!!

Faith Communities Shelter Program
On the third Saturday of the month, Community Covenant Church partners with St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, feeding a meal to a group of 16-20 homeless individuals, while St. Philip’s provides the shelter. Erik & Heather Hedstrom would like to team up with people from Community Covenant to prepare and serve the meal on July 18th. The meal can be prepared in your own kitchen or at St. Philip’s. Reimbursement with receipt is available up to $50 – see Claudia in the church office for details. If you would simply like to help Erik & Heather serve to gain a better understanding of the ministry, that would be great. Please contact Claudia at [email protected] or Erik at [email protected]

Wings Training Event

HSC Campus Beautification Day
July 11th from 9 am to 1 pm
115 Coral Street, Santa Cruz

The temporary closing of the Loft and other emergency services provides an opportunity for some spring cleaning. Homeless Services Center is holding a Campus Beautification Day on Saturday, July 11th. There will be gardening, organizing, and general clean-up of the grounds. Wings is looking for all available volunteers and would love to have CCSV participate! Contact Cassie Strusis-Timmer if you are willing to help. All supplies will be provided.

Joni & Friends
Joni & Friends is in need of Short-Term Missionaries for the July 12-17 JAF retreats at Mission Springs. We especially need people for campers of the ages of nursery to teens as well as a few “floaters” who can help set up activities, etc.

Wednesday, June 17 at 6:30 pm concludes the spring Men’s Bible Study session. It meets in the church library. Look for information about fall Men’s Bible Study in future emails.

Friday, June 19, is the Men’s BBQ from 5-9 pm on the church patio. All men are welcome. Please bring a friend and enjoy a meal while getting to know other men in our community. Main meal/drinks/dessert provided. Please bring a side, salad or chips or just $3 for the basket.

 

Faith Community Shelter Third Saturday
Community Covenant is joining with St. Philip’s on the third Saturday of the month (just changed from second Saturday) for the Faith Community Shelter, where a group of 16-20 homeless participants rotate sleeping in a different church each night of the week. St. Philip’s is providing the sleeping space and Community Covenant is providing the meal. Volunteers are needed to prepare and/or serve the evening meal, and we are starting to put together a monthly schedule through the end of the year. We are trying to get some momentum going and continue with groups like men’s ministry, women’s ministry, staff & families, youth, etc. to develop into a solid ministry to the homeless community.

The immediate need is for this month, June 20. If you are able to participate by preparing or serving the meal, please contact the church office 831-438-4276 or [email protected] If you are interested in participating in the program in an upcoming month, please also contact the church office.

Women’s Breakfast at Auntie Mame’s, Monday June 22, 8:30 am.

Youth Beach Day with Twin Lakes Church Youth Group, Monday June 22, 12 – 4 pm. Meet at Sunny Cove at the end of 17th in Santa Cruz

Club 4-5 Roller skating at Santa Cruz Roller Palladium, Thursday June 25, 3:30 – 5:30 pm. Parents are welcome to stay or drop off their kids.
