Young Life Adventures getting ready for summer! And more…

Young Life Adventures Work Day
Join us on Saturday, April 30th from 9 AM to 2 PM to help YL Adventures get camp ready! We need skilled labor for some small construction projects as well as hard working folks to help with yard work and clean up. For clean up help, please bring rakes, shovels, brooms etc. If you have construction skills contact James for what to bring!

Faith Communities Shelter Help Needed on Saturday, May 21
Once a month, Erik and Heather Hedstrom prepare and serve dinner to the 16-20 homeless individuals at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church as part of the Faith Communities Shelter. Next month, on May 21, Erik & Heather are unable to be there and are searching for someone to make and serve dinner. Arrive at 5:30 pm, depart around 7. There are funds available up to $50 – turn your receipt in to Claudia in the office for reimbursement.

Young Life Adventures

Young Life Adventures is getting the Wild Oak camp property ready for summer and are looking for people with general contracting skills to help. They have scheduled a work day Saturday, April 30, from 9 am to 2 pm at the Mission Springs property on Nelson Road. Please bring a sack lunch if you’re able to help.

Community Covenant Church joins with St. Philip’s Episcopal Church on the third Saturday of each month for the Faith Community Shelter, to house and feed a group of 16-20 homeless participants. St. Philip’s provides the sleeping space and Community Covenant Church provides the meal. Everyone is invited to the ALL CHURCH FALL FESTIVAL & BBQ next Sunday, October 18, after church at Frontier Ranch.The staff took a short field trip to Frontier Ranch this week and rediscovered the possibilities – there are two ping pong tables, regular foosball, human foosball (whatever that is), disc golf, carpet ball (again, ???) and a huge lawn for bocci ball, 3 legged races, etc. There will be bingo and a cupcake walk for all ages and, of course, music and food! We’ll supply and BBQ the hot dogs. Please bring a side dish or dessert to share. We’ll head over after church, start up by 12:30 and go until around 2:30.

Directions from church: Take Mt. Hermon Rd. past Lockwood Lane, turn right onto Lockhart Gulch Rd. Continue on Lockhart Gulch to the Mission Springs Camp & Conference Center at Cathedral Drive and turn right. Stay on Cathedral Drive through the conference center and drive up the hill. Turn right on Frontier Road at the fork in the road. Frontier Ranch is at the end of Frontier Road. There is plenty of parking on Freemy Circle and also at the top of Frontier Road. If you are unable to make the hike down the hill, have the driver drop you off. There is some parking at the bottom if needed.

Faith Communities Shelter Program
On the third Saturday of the month, Community Covenant Church partners with St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, feeding a meal to a group of 16-20 homeless individuals, while St. Philip’s provides the shelter. Erik & Heather Hedstrom would like to team up with people from Community Covenant to prepare and serve the meal on July 18th. The meal can be prepared in your own kitchen or at St. Philip’s. Reimbursement with receipt is available up to $50 – see Claudia in the church office for details. If you would simply like to help Erik & Heather serve to gain a better understanding of the ministry, that would be great. Please contact Claudia at [email protected] or Erik at [email protected]

HSC Campus Beautification Day
July 11th from 9 am to 1 pm
115 Coral Street, Santa Cruz

The temporary closing of the Loft and other emergency services provides an opportunity for some spring cleaning. Homeless Services Center is holding a Campus Beautification Day on Saturday, July 11th. There will be gardening, organizing, and general clean-up of the grounds. Wings is looking for all available volunteers and would love to have CCSV participate! Contact Cassie Strusis-Timmer if you are willing to help. All supplies will be provided.

Joni & Friends
Joni & Friends is in need of Short-Term Missionaries for the July 12-17 JAF retreats at Mission Springs. We especially need people for campers of the ages of nursery to teens as well as a few “floaters” who can help set up activities, etc.

Faith Community Shelter Third Saturday
Community Covenant is joining with St. Philip’s on the third Saturday of the month (just changed from second Saturday) for the Faith Community Shelter, where a group of 16-20 homeless participants rotate sleeping in a different church each night of the week. St. Philip’s is providing the sleeping space and Community Covenant is providing the meal. Volunteers are needed to prepare and/or serve the evening meal, and we are starting to put together a monthly schedule through the end of the year. We are trying to get some momentum going and continue with groups like men’s ministry, women’s ministry, staff & families, youth, etc. to develop into a solid ministry to the homeless community.

The immediate need is for this month, June 20. If you are able to participate by preparing or serving the meal, please contact the church office 831-438-4276 or [email protected] If you are interested in participating in the program in an upcoming month, please also contact the church office.
