Thank for your interest in pastoral leadership at Community Covenant. Our pastoral search committee has been meeting for several months; praying for God’s direction, gathering congregational information, and enjoying rich discussions as we prepare to seek a new pastor to join our community of faith and lead us into the next season of our congregational life and mission. The information on this page comes from this shared discernment. We hope it will communicate who we are and the type of pastor we are looking for so you can discern your next step in relationship to this unique calling.
We are a Christ-centered, spiritually hungry, relational congregation. We are strongly committed to thoughtful faith, unity across difference, and authentic community life. We are an intergenerational church that was founded in the 1970s by several families. That sense of family persists among us and continues to be an area we want to cultivate.
We care about:
We are a church seeking to live faithfully, lovingly, and courageously in a complex world—open to the Spirit's leading as we move into the next season.
We are seeking a pastor whose life and ministry are clearly rooted in Jesus Christ. This person should demonstrate a deep love for Scripture, a vibrant prayer life, and an ongoing openness to the work of the Holy Spirit. We desire preaching and teaching that are biblically grounded, grace-filled, and attentive to the lived realities of people’s lives.
Our congregation will flourish under a pastor who:
We are seeking a pastor who genuinely enjoys being with people – listening, sharing life, and relating to people across generations, backgrounds, and perspectives. They should be mature - spiritually, socially, and emotionally, and possess the ability to be present to the joys and sufferings of our community without rushing to fix people. We are a congregation that wants to be known. This is how trust is built at Community Covenant. We are not resistant to change, but we do resist being led without being listened to.
We are seeking a pastor who sees ministry as shared work and leadership as collaborative. They lead and make decisions WITH the staff and lay leaders. Shared and individual responsibilities are discerned and clearly defined, and people are equipped and empowered to do their jobs.
Our congregation values mutual ministry and wants to avoid burnout, hierarchy, and over-dependence on one individual. We want our pastoral staff to thrive when working together, maintain healthy boundaries, respect work-life balance, and practice sustainable leadership.
Our congregation contains a wide range of theological, political, social, and generational diversity, AND we are committed to remain together. We are united not by sameness, but by a common desire to follow Jesus in humility and grace. We want our diverse voices to hold together in love. We are seeking a pastor who can hold the tension of differing perspectives with respect, gentleness and curiosity; someone who values connection over polarization, nuance over rigidity and dialogue over division. We seek leadership that does not need everyone to agree, and can cultivate a culture where people feel safe, valued and united around Christ even when they do not fully agree.
We are seeking a pastor who, along with us, believes it is important to love, serve and work together with people at the margins toward holistic individual, family, and community transformation. We are involved in a handful of local ministries and support global missionaries as well. Yet we sense this belief (this embodied faith) is inviting us to something more in the days ahead.
In preparation for our pastoral search, we conducted two surveys to help our church family articulate where we are now in our life of faith and what we want from pastoral leadership in the months and years to come. To learn more of what came from those surveys, you can read the summary of each survey by clicking the links below.
If you haven’t already, we encourage you to read the job descriptions (linked below) for the two models of pastoral leadership we are considering and the information about our church family published above on this page.
